Introducing our Choice Time Kit initiative - five chess sets for every NYC elementary classroom!

What is a choice time kit?

Choice time is a dedicated block of time for students to explore different activities, providing them with the independence to begin developing and pursuing their own interests from a young age. Our choice-time kits include five chess sets sponsored by The Gift of Chess, as well as access to The Gift of Chess training app. We hope that elementary school students across NYC can begin benefitting from learning and playing chess during choice-time.

A set for every elementary school classroom

There are approximately 700 K-5 public elementary schools across NYC, including over 17,500 classrooms. We want to put a choice-time kit in the hands of every teacher for each of these classrooms, which would represent over 87,500 sets providing access to a physical chess set and our Gift of Chess training app for hundreds of thousands of students.

How can you help support the distribution of choice time kits?

We are trying to raise close to $450,000 to fund the 87,500 chess sets needed to get a choice-time kit into every elementary school classroom in NYC. You can make a donation to support the purchase of these sets below.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help us assemble the choice time kits. If your organization or company is interested, please let us know by reaching out at info@thegiftofchess.org .
