2nd Annual KDOC Chess Championship

Tony Ballard and Captain Kevin Oneth kicked off the 2nd Annual Facility Chess Championship’s. When we go to put on these events, it is not just about playing chess.

Tony shares his story on how playing chess changed his life by using Problem Solving, Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making Skills. This is an interactive event in which the residents are involved in the discussions. On Sunday, March 3, 2024, WWRF was the first stop of the 18 facility tour. We will end the Facilities Chess Championships tour on May 29th at Stockton and Norton Correctional Facilities. The top 4 finishers from each facility qualify for the Kansas Prison Online Chess Championship in June. The Top 3 Kansas Teams will compete in the Inter-Continental Prison Chess Championships in the fall. The next facility we will be travelling to is the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka on March 11th.
