The Gift of Chess Reaches Egypt With 1,000 Chess Sets!

Under the leadership of our newly appointed Ambassador Mahmoud Roushdi, @MahmoudRoushdi1, 1,000 @thegiftofchess chess sets have arrived in Egypt. These chess sets will be used to spark opportunity and create a new generation of critical thinkers.

About Mahmoud Roushdi:

Pay it Forward, this is my principle in life My name is Mahmoud Roushdi, and I am a PhD holder in petroleum engineering, a chess trainer, and an international chess player. I began learning chess at the age of six from my father and uncle, and I quickly developed a strong passion for the game. I would spend hours practicing with friends and family, and I often accompanied my uncle to cafes to watch experienced players compete.

I was unaware of the existence of professional chess clubs at the time, as I resided in a neighborhood devoid of such establishments. At the age of 14, I discovered the existence of chess clubs that participated in league and cup competitions. I joined one of these clubs and played in the under-14 age group, where I led my team to third place in the national championship. This success further fueled my passion for chess, and I went on to achieve numerous titles at the university level.

My first international rating was 2204, a remarkably high score for an Egyptian player. Many experts predicted that I would rise to become one of Egypt's strongest players. As chess academies began to proliferate across Egypt, I joined one as a trainer. My students, under my guidance, went on to win numerous national and African championships.

With a growing sense of my social responsibility, I began to contemplate how I could contribute to my community through chess. I decided to dedicate a portion of my time and effort to teaching chess to underprivileged children who lacked access to formal academies. Driven by a belief in giving back without expecting anything in return, and inspired by a vision of every child playing chess, I launched an initiative called "Chess for Every Child."

I reached out to an orphanage to offer chess instruction to the children there. I purchased two chess sets and an instructional course, and I began visiting the orphanage weekly. Teaching chess to these children, especially given their challenging circumstances, brought me immense joy. I prayed for the means to provide every child in Egypt with the opportunity to learn chess.

Today, I am proud to be an ambassador to Egypt for @thegiftofchess, who are dedicated to teaching and promoting chess to children and underprivileged individuals. I am committed to giving my all to achieving our goal of providing "Chess for Every Child."
