EKO Chess - Lagos, Nigeria

We were founded by 3 Teach for Nigeria fellow who are passionate about bridging the gap of education inequity.

Our quest for Quality Education For All has led to the creation of a chess community that will raise exceptional chess players in public schools in Lagos, Nigeria.

We have been greatly influenced by Tunde Onakoya and Chess in Slums and this has become our drive to ensure that every public school in Lagos, Nigeria has a progressive chess club.

We have been able to reach 10 schools in Lagos State and created a chess club in each school.

Presently, we plan to host the first interschool competition in public schools in Lagos by mid-term.

A chess master in one of the schools shared that since he started teaching his students chess he discovered that it has greatly influenced the student's academic performance in the classroom. He has set out to raise grandmasters in unusual places.
